What is the connection between Roman Reigns and The Rock? WWE Superstars Belong To Same Anoa’i Wrestling Family, But Won’t Face Each Other At WrestleMania 39

WWE fans have been desperately waiting for Roman Reigns and The Rock to finally face off inside the ring for years.
The company’s current biggest star, Reigns, taking on wrestling’s biggest export, is a dream match and, in WWE fashion, the pair share a deeper connection.
WWE had hoped to have the pair headline WrestleMania 39 next weekend, but plans fell through after Rocky cited a lack of time to get into ring shape.
WWE TV constantly referenced the fact that Reigns was cousins with Dwayne Johnson, but is it all smoke and mirrors? talkSPORT.com takes a look…
What is the connection between Roman Reigns and The Rock?
The pair don’t share the same blood, but they belong to the same famous Anoa’i wrestling family and refer to each other as cousins.
The Rock’s grandfather, “High Chief,” Peter Maivia, was a blood brother to Reigns and The Usos’ grandfather, Reverend Amituana’i Anoa’i.
Other notable WWE stars who were part of the legendary Anoa’i family include Rikishi, Nia Jax, and the late Umaga and Yokozuna.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, the Rock said, “It’s my family.
“I think these guys are doing a great job and I think what an interesting change the business has gone through this year, unexpected in so many ways.
“But when the unexpected happens in this way and in this form and in this fashion, especially in this industry, you have to have the ability and the agility to pivot, which they have.
“So with Roman, I think he’s doing a good job, and the boys too, the Usos too.”
