The 48-year-old, from Essex, took to his YouTube channel on Friday when the allegations came to light and said all relationships “were absolutely always consensual”, during the “promiscuous” phase of his life. He called the claims “a litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks,” which he vehemently denies.

What did Brand say?

Brand posted a video on social media denying all allegations before the details were revealed.

In it, he said he had received a letter and email from a “mainstream television company” and another from a newspaper listing complaints against him.

“Amid this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute,” he said in the video.

“These allegations relate to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in newspapers all the time, when I was in movies, and as I’ve written a lot in my books, I was very , very promiscuous.

“Now, during this period of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.”

He then claimed to have been the victim of a “coordinated attack”.

The independent has contacted Brand representatives for further comment.
