West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen backed for England call by Hammers teammate Pablo Fornals

Bowen scored his first goal of the season against Brentford on Sunday before the Bees snatched a late winner thanks to Yoane Wissa.

The 24-year-old is on Gareth Southgate’s radar and was put on hold for the England squad in September, although there is fierce competition for his post.

But Fornals, who have earned a place in Spain’s last two teams, believes Bowen deserves a call-up after his impressive start to the season for West Ham.

“Jarrod tries to score in every game and plays a huge role for West Ham,” Fornals said.

“Why can’t England soon make a call for him?” He deserves it as much, or more, than [some of the] players who go. “I think if he continues to play at this level, he will have a 100% chance.”

West Ham were far behind in the first half against Brentford but struggled to get back into the game in the second half before the Bees scored late to win 2-1.

The Hammers’ two losses this season, to Brentford and Manchester United, ended in goals in the dying minutes of the game, which Fornals says shows their quality.

“We lost to Manchester United in a game where we could have kept at least one point and here the same,” said the midfielder.

“We’re a tough team to beat and it’s going to get us a lot of points this season. Last week we took the late points ourselves. “We’re making a game difficult to win against us and I think that’s why we are where we are.”
