‘We’re paying him $8m, it’s outrageous’ – Frank Warren fumes after Dillian Whyte’s no-shows at Tyson Fury press conference

Frank Warren told talkSPORT that Dillian Whyte had made “ridiculous demands” to attend Tuesday’s first press conference for his fight with Tyson Fury.

Whyte is set to challenge the Gypsy King for their WBC heavyweight title live on talkSPORT on Saturday April 23, but failed to show up for the opening presser.

Last week the contest was officially announced, but without any comment from either boxer in the press release.

While the WBC heavyweight title fight went to auction (which Fury’s British co-promoter Frank Warren won with a bid of $41 million), Whyte’s money is secured.

This means he won’t get any bonuses based on how well the PPV sells, and therefore apparently doesn’t feel pressured to promote the fight in order to generate more money for his rival’s team.

Warren told talkSPORT Boxing Insider: “I didn’t think he was coming.

“I don’t think he wants to come, he asked ridiculous requests.

“At some point a few days ago [it was] that we can’t even use his image on a poster.

“I mean, what is it?

“We pay him $8 million, plus he has a $4 million advantage if he wins, it’s outrageous.

“But it’s like that and we continue.

“As long as he’s there at night, that’s all that matters.

“One thing I won’t take away from him is his ability as a boxer, he’ll come and fight, he’s a warrior.

“But the rest leaves a lot to be desired.

“It’s not professional, it’s not the industry standard, I’ve never been involved or even seen a fight where either guy doesn’t show up, I’ve never heard.”
