On Wednesday’s show of “MTP Now” on NBC, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) argued that Democrats should say “we’re going to solve inflation with a climate bill” and that in Congress, “we have to do climate all the time now” and that “every bill we do, whether it’s an appropriations bill or a policy bill should have climate provisions because “we’ve reached a point where our climate is really at a tipping point. We’re losing this battle and losing control of the weather.”
Heinrich said: “[I]It is really our reliance on fossil fuels that is causing the frustration and runaway inflation that our constituents are feeling.
He added: ‘And honestly, I think every bill that we do, whether it’s an appropriations bill or a policy bill, we have to do the climate all the time now. Because as you’ve seen not just from Texas, from the southwest, from Europe, we’ve reached a point where our climate is really at a tipping point. We are losing this battle and losing control of the weather. And we have to act on every opportunity, whether it’s the administration, whether it’s Congress, whether it’s state and local leaders.
Heinrich further stated that “Inflation is also a critical and critical issue. And we have to connect the dots and say, well, we’re going to solve inflation with a climate bill that’s going to lower the cost of energy for consumers and move us to more energy sources clean and cheaper. And that “the solution to many of our inflation problems really lies in some of the policies contained in this climate bill.”
