“We stay hungry, we devour”

Indian team’s versatile player Washington Sundar has shared a clip of himself working hard to get back into shape after another injury battle.

After a layoff, the 22-year-old returned to international cricket in the ODI series against West Indies last month. He was impressive in his first game on his comeback, claiming 3-30.

Sundar also contributed 24 and 33 with the bat in the next two ODIs. However, his comeback was short-lived as he suffered a hamstring injury in the final game of the series and was dropped from the following T20Is. He also did not feature in the series against Sri Lanka.

On Wednesday, the off-spinner shared an Insta story in which he is seen running hard in his efforts to regain full fitness. Sundar shared the clip with the lyrics to the inspirational song “Face Off.” He shared these lines:

“It’s a question of driving, it’s a question of power

We stay hungry, we devour

Put in the work, put in the hours and take what’s ours (ahoo)

Black and Samoan in my veins

My culture bumps with Strange.

The young cricketer has been struggling with injury and fitness issues lately. He was ruled out of the UAE leg of IPL 2021 due to a finger injury and failed to recover in time for the T20 World Cup. He also missed the South Africa tour after testing positive for COVID-19.

‘Not thinking about Washington Sundar at the moment’ – Aakash Chopra on India’s T20 World Cup squad

According to former India fly-half Aakash Chopra, Sundar is not among the top contenders to make Australia’s T20 World Cup squad later this year. He said Ravindra Jadeja is the No.1 all-around spinner in India and the team wouldn’t need too many spinners in Australia.

Speaking on his YouTube channel a few days ago, the 44-year-old said:

“I’m not thinking about Washington Sundar at the moment. He’s there in the lead but I’m not convinced because his stick in T20 lower down the order, I’m not particularly convinced. So I probably won’t go to him. If we talk about jack-of-all-trades, Ravindra Jadeja is confirmed there. There will be no doubt there. This is Australia, so I would say that it is not necessary to take too many spinners .

Hard to believe. Sincere prayers to his family, friends and fans. Rest in peace Shane Warne. https://t.co/iDaSMijocr

Sundar will have his chance to claim a spot in the T20 World Cup at IPL 2022. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹8.75 crore at auction in February.
