We limited the importance of Hunter’s story in cases where fact checkers wanted to examine it, which they did not.

During part of an interview that aired on Wednesday’s show of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Nick Clegg answered a question about whether Facebook manipulated or censored the laptop story. of Hunter Biden and COVID origin stories by stating that they downplayed the laptop story for seven days so their fact checkers could “examine the story if they wanted to . They did not do it.

Host Bret Baier asked, [relevant exchange begins around 3:05] “[A]As for the stories, the Hunter Biden laptop story, the COVID origins story, did Facebook manipulate or censor those as they came out?

Clegg replied, “So on the Hunter Biden story, other platforms, I think it was Twitter, kind of just deleted the story. We did not do it. You could always find the story. Millions of people have done it. But for seven days, the importance of the story was less for those seven days. It’s just part of how our systems work to allow our fact checkers, we have a network of independent fact checkers to review the story if they wish. They did not do it. And after seven days, this — what we call in the jargon — this temporary demotion was lifted. So we didn’t remove it. People might find it. Lots of people saw it on Facebook. We were simply following the rules by which our systems currently operate.
