West Ham have been left sweating over the fitness of new signing Nayef Aguerd who limped off injured in their 3-1 loss to Rangers in pre-season.
The centre-back, who signed for the Hammers from Rennes in a £28m deal earlier this summer, lasted just 23 minutes at Ibrox on Tuesday due to a football problem. ankle.
An X-ray has since confirmed that the Morocco international did not suffer a break, but the issue remains a big concern.
West Ham boss David Moyes has given an update on the 26-year-old after watching his side fail against the Scottish giants.
“We’ve already had Nayef X-rayed and there’s no broken ankle, which is good news,” Moyes said.
“Maybe it’s ligaments, or he twisted his ankle – it exploded immediately so we have to hope it’s not a problem.”
Further tests are expected to be carried out on the defender in the coming days once the swelling subsides.
The Hammers are hoping to have the centre-back fit for their Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 7.

West Ham lost the game with Tom Lawrence, Ryan Kent and Rabbi Matondo all for the home side, while Tomas Soucek managed to pull one back from a corner 20 minutes from time.
Currently, Moyes has five centre-backs in his squad, but Craig Dawson struggled to stay fit during pre-season, and Angelo Ogbonna has just returned from an ACL injury, which he contracted last November.
The Hammers were close to letting centre-back Issa Diop leave for £20m, with Fulham keen on the Frenchman.
It is now likely that Moyes will have to rethink whether or not letting him go would be the right move.
West Ham suffered a defensive injury crisis last campaign which ultimately derailed their season, and they won’t want that to happen again.
