We have enough gun laws but not enough prosecutions

The sheriff overseeing the Oxford High, Mich., Shooting investigation responded to a reporter’s gun control question on Wednesday, stressing the need to further prosecute criminals who use guns.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard was asked whether the Oxford High attack could lead to a review of “gun laws”.

Bouchard replied:

We have a whole bunch of gun laws that aim to hold criminals accountable when they commit a crime, when they use a gun, when they carry a gun illegally, and they are not being used today. ‘hui. This is one of our constant concerns across the country… we see this all over the country we catch someone illegally with a gun and this is alleged to be a misdemeanor and they are out.

He added: “I think the surest way to hold people accountable when they do things illegally with a gun is to punish them, and that doesn’t happen in many communities across America. today.”

Bouchard referred to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), saying that there are “a large number of people who are prohibited from purchasing this gun who are captured by the system and who do not. are never prosecuted for trying. We have gun laws in place, we don’t hold people to account. “
