Wayfair to open first storefront in Chicago, Midwest area – NBC Chicago

Popular online store Wayfair is set to open its first storefront in the Chicago area next year, which will also be the company’s first location in the Midwest.

The Wilmette suburb will host the Wayfair store in the Edens Plaza shopping center, located on the northwest corner of Lake Avenue and Skokie Boulevard off Interstate 94, the village said on Tuesday.

The new location will fill the vacant two-story building that once housed Carson Pirie Scott, according to a statement. Wayfair is expected to be ready to open to buyers in mid-2023.

“Filling in this strategic space has been a long-standing economic development priority of the Village Council, and we are delighted that WS Development and Wayfair are helping to reinvigorate Edens Plaza,” said Village President Senta Plunkett. “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for our community and I am happy to welcome WS Development and Wayfair to Wilmette. ”

Wayfair, a Boston-based home e-commerce retailer, has another outlet in Florence, Ky. Buyers at this store can purchase returned items and clearance items in good condition, according to the website.

In 2022, the company plans to open three physical stores in Massachusetts, which is expected to launch a line of physical storefronts nationwide.
