WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – A new addition to the Waukesha County courthouse was officially celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 12.
The secure four-story courtroom adds 62,000 square feet to the courthouse.
All criminal and traffic court officials will move to the new addition, which includes six standard courtrooms, a large capacity courtroom, and an admission courtroom with an adjoining bail room.
The standard and large-capacity courtrooms have their own room for victim-witnesses, a holding cell for detainees and a conference room.
“The courts exist to serve the people,” said Chief Justice Jennifer Dorow. “Yet the judiciary is perhaps the least understood branch of government. Some only understand the justice system through what they can see and hear about it in the news. coming to this beautiful and modern structure is sure to be impressed. “
Court officials will move into the new addition in phases, with full operations slated for early 2022.
