Jonathan Allen will stay in Washington

Outstanding defensive tackle Jonathan Allen has signed a four-year, $ 72 million extension with the Washington football team.

Allen’s deal came on the eve of Washington’s return to action at its preseason training camp and it would include a signing bonus worth around $ 30 million.

The 26-year-old has become one of the best players in his role since being selected with the 17th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Injuries slowed down his professional career, but it didn’t take long for Allen to become a team manager and a key part of a defense that placed second in the NFL last season.

Allen only managed two sacks last season, to go along with his 63 tackles, but it was his presence on the pitch that caused problems for opponents and helped other Washington players, including rookie sensation Chase Young, to shine.

For his career, Allen has 190 tackles and 17 sacks.

Allen was set to become a free agent at the end of his contract during the next offseason, with concerns that he would have to be played under a franchise label if a new deal had not been made.

Washington is currently using its tag on offensive tackle Brandon Scherff for a second straight season.
