Wanted man jumps rooftops to escape bounty hunters in Oakley, barricades himself in stranger’s basement
Bounty hunters attempted to arrest a wanted parolee hours ago, police say, but the suspect fled.
He climbed onto the roof of a house and took off, jumping from roof to roof along Third Street.
Then the man broke into a house and barricaded himself in the basement – the family upstairs heard the din and fled.
Officers say the suspect tried to set the fire.
A police dog was dispatched, and Oakley Police Department Lt. Roberts explained what happened next, “they tried to get him out. He hit a police dog with a pipe or a stick. But he’s in a crawl space and they can’t get him out.”
Officers tagged the suspect and shot him with a shotgun, then took him into custody and to the hospital for evaluation.
The police dog he is accused of hitting is fine.
