The winner under former Oldham loanee Conor Wilkinson deepened his former club’s relegation worries as Walsall came from behind to triumph 2-1 in League Two.
Teenage defender Will Sutton took the lead for Oldham but they remained three points from safety after Emmanuel Osadebe broke through Walsall’s level and set up Wilkinson to volley in.
Oldham led after 21 minutes as 19-year-old Sutton – recalled earlier today from a loan spell at National League North side Farsley Celtic – eyed Nicky Adams’ corner.
Davis Keillor-Dunn almost added a spectacular second but his chip just inside Walsall’s half drifted narrowly.
Walsall equalized 12 minutes later as, as Oldham unsuccessfully appealed for a foul on a down Hallam Hope, wing-back Osadebe stepped in and launched a vicious strike into the low corner.
The two teams closed before the break, Christopher Missilou narrowly missing the target for Oldham, while unmarked Walsall skipper Joss Labadie headed away from Osadebe’s cross.
Carl Rushworth’s fingertip save thwarted Missilou in a second half of few chances.
But Wilkinson condemned Oldham to a third straight loss and left them three points from safety, turning away Osadebe’s cross in the 73rd minute.
