12:22 p.m .: a Russian frigate equipped with hypersonic missiles sets sail
Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw the departure of a frigate on Wednesday which he said was equipped with the new Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles.
The head of the Kremlin made the announcement during a videoconference attended by his Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, as well as the commander of the frigate “Admiral of the fleet of the Soviet Union ‘Gorchkov'”.
Sergei Shoigu clarified during the videoconference that the ‘Gorchkov’ frigate would sail in the Atlantic and Indian oceans as well as in the Mediterranean Sea.
10:27 a.m.: Moscow blames Makiivka bombing on use of mobile phones
The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that the bombing of Makiivka, which is believed to have killed 89 Russian soldiers, was made possible by the illegal use of mobile phones by its soldiers.
“This factor allowed the enemy to track and determine the coordinates of the location of the soldiers for a missile launch,” he said in a statement released shortly after 1 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
