Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire played an exciting game on the return of Vitality Blas, while Liam Livingstone smashed 94 balls, not just 58 for Lancashire…

Defending champions Notts are tied with Worcestershire

2020 champions the Nottinghamshire Outlaws were only able to secure a tie against 2018 winners Worcestershire Rapids after collapsing from a position of dominance in a thriller in front of the Sky Sports Camera in New Road.

Joe Clarke (45 of 21 balls) and Alex Hales (31 of 18) beat an opening stand of 76 inside six overs as the Outlaws had a stunning 153 chase start – Clarke hitting four sixes and two fours and Hales crushing three sixes and two fours.

However, Clarke, Hales and Ben Duckett (6) fell one after the other and Worcestershire kept things tight in the middle thanks to spinners Moeen Ali, Ish Sodhi and Bret D’Oliveira – Ali sacking Tom Moores (12 ) thanks to a superb dive caught by Ross Whiteley in the deep midwicket and Samit Patel (12) is exhausted.

Nottinghamshire were still the favorites at 140-5 with four overs to go, but three quiet overs then left them with five from the last Josh Tongue – and they scored just four with Peter Trego only able to pull it off. ‘just one of the last before he was exhausted looking for a winning second inning as Notts finished with 152-8.

Liam Livingstone hit 10 fours and two sixes as his undefeated 94 propelled Lancashire to victory over Derbyshire in the Vitality Blast

Livingstone’s superb shot helped the Lancashire Lightning reach their goal of 169 against the Derbyshire Falcons as they won the 2021 Vitality Blast opener by six wickets at Emirates Old Trafford.

Opener Livingstone shared half-century partnerships with New Zealander Finn Allen (29 of 13 balls), England’s Jos Buttler (30 of 28) – who was playing his first game since reaching a hundred IPLs on May 2 – and captain Dane Vilas (15 of 15) as the hosts hit their goal with three balls to lose in front of around 4,000 fans.

Derbyshire had previously posted 168-7, in which former Lancashire man Luis Reece (59 of 32) scored the best goal and Wayne Madsen retired not with an alleged hamstring injury after being hit by the ball as he dove to make his ground.

Home leg spinner Matt Parkinson caught 3-28 of his four overs, while Livingstone also impressed with the ball, Falcons bowling captain Billy Godleman for a duck in the first over en route to economic numbers of 1-22 of four overs

With the bat, Livingstone hit 10 fours and two sixes and hit his half century from 36 deliveries, while Buttler hit three fours before being caught in the reverse sweep at Reece’s bowling third man (2 -26).

Fynn Hudson-Prentice (2-9) also struck twice in the sole above him, sending off Allen and Alex Davies (0) in the fifth round of the pursuit to reduce Lancashire from 53-0 to 53-2, only for Livingstone, Buttler and Vilas to restart the innings.
