Virginia authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a body found earlier this year.

The James City County Police Department (JCCPD) said a man’s body was found in a Williamsburg retention pond last month, but they have not yet been able to identify the body , who was described as a black male likely 16 years old. at 26.

He was found around 9:45 a.m. on January 25.

“The JCCPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the deceased discovered in a retention pond on January 25. The investigation indicates that the deceased was in the retention pond for two weeks or more. The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward,” the JCCPD said.

James City County Police say the body of a man was found in a Williamsburg holding pond on January 25.

Police also said the body was approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed between 160 and 185 pounds. The individual had black hair and brown eyes.

“No other anomalies or identifying features could be determined,” James County Police said.

Officials provided a description of the clothing the individual was wearing, which included a medium-sized black shirt with a “Berret’s Taphouse Grill” logo, a black Nike hoodie, and a silver chain necklace.

A pedestrian found the body near the 5000 block of Olive Drive on the morning of January 25 and called the police.

James City County Police and Fire Department responded and recovered the body, which is being held at the Norfolk Medical Examiners Office.

The individual’s cause of death has not been released. Officials said it was a “suspicious death investigation”.
