Shima:

Himachal Pradesh Congress Leader Pratibha Singh, wife of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, and son Vikramaditya Singh congratulated party workers after defeating BJP in Assembly elections.

Pratibha Singh said they will not forget the former chief minister’s legacy as the party fought the election on his behalf and won. Vikramaditya Singh also won the seat of Shimla Rural.

“We have been working in the field for five years and we knew that people were disappointed with this so-called twin-engine ki sarkar, and we were very sure that it would be swept away,” Vikramaditya Singh told NDTV.

On his father’s legacy, Vikramaditya Singh said, “As a son, I miss him. But I can say that he is immortal and lives on in the hearts and minds of the people of the state. The results have proven that his school of thought will be functional and highly visible in the next government.”

Earlier, Pratibha Singh told reporters that when Virbhadra Singh was chief minister, “he devoted a lot of his life to the development of Himachal”.

“Wherever he went, if people asked that they wanted a school, they wanted money for horticulture, he would make the funds available and help people,” Pratibha Singh said. “The people of Himachal gave the BJP a chance and compared what Virbhadra ji did, only to find out that the BJP was no good at all,” she said.

After an initial scare, Congress won 40 seats in Himachal Pradesh, a comfortable majority, with the BJP at 25. The Aam Aadmi party failed to win a single seat.

In terms of vote share, Congress was only slightly ahead of the BJP with 43.88% of the vote. The BJP finished second with 42.99%.
