Video since deleted shows Marjorie Taylor Greene harassing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s office during 2019 Capitol Hill visit

During a February 2019 visit to the Congressional offices of the U.S. Capitol with associates, including a man who would later enter the Capitol during the January 6 uprising, Greene – then a conservative activist – can be seen in taunting Ocasio-Cortez staff in front of the congressman. desk locked while speaking through a mailbox slot pressing it out.
In the video, from a since deleted Greene’s Facebook Live that was recorded by CNN’s KFile, Greene tells Ocasio-Cortez to “get rid of your diaper,” referring to the congressman’s office as a “nursery”. Greene repeatedly indicates throughout his feed that security has been called on them.

“We’re going to go see, we’re going to visit, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Crazy eyes. Crazy eyes. Hazelnut. Cortez,” Greene said to the camera as he walked to the MP’s office, mispronouncing “Ocasio.”

When Greene and his companions arrive at the office, the door to Ocasio-Cortez’s office is locked. Standing outside the office, Greene and his associates mock the Ocasio-Cortez staff through the mailbox, mocking the staff for keeping the door locked.

Then Greene speaks through the cleft to the staff, urging them to unlock the door and let her and her cohorts in.

“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I am a U.S. citizen. I pay your salary through the taxes you collect for me through the IRS because I’m a U.S. citizen taxpayer,” Greene says, noting elsewhere in the video that members of Congress are “employees” who “work for us”.

“So you have to stop being a baby and stop locking your door and go out and face the American citizens you serve,” she said. “If you want to be a big girl, you have to get rid of your diaper and go out and be able to talk to the citizens of the United States. Instead of having to use a flap, a little flap. Sad.”

CNN has contacted the offices of Greene and Ocasio-Cortez for their comment.

In the video, Greene and his companions continue to direct staff while laughing outside the door. “You can’t stay in there forever. Come out and play,” a Greene ally mocks through the slot in the mailbox.

The video is from February 22, 2019 – the same day Greene visited the Capitol and presented House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office with a petition to impeach the California Democrat for treason, and suggested she should be executed or imprisoned for his “crimes”. On social media in 2018 and 2019, Greene repeatedly indicated his support for the execution of other Democratic politicians, including former President Barack Obama, former Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, and FBI agents.

Greene also visited Representative Maxine Waters’ office that day, where she said the California Democrat was “just as guilty” of treason as Pelosi. She also visited the offices of first-year representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, during which she falsely claimed that the first two Muslim women elected to Congress were not “official” because they had taken the oath on. the Koran. Greene stopped by the offices of Representatives Dan Crenshaw, a Republican from Texas, and Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, and suggested visiting then-Sen. Kamala Harris that day.

With Greene on Capitol Hill that day was his close ally Anthony Aguero, a former El Paso congressional candidate and conservative live broadcaster who was filmed inside the Capitol during the Jan.6 uprising.

As they leave Ocasio-Cortez’s office, Greene says, “Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye, AOC. Ocasio-Cortez. Goodbye, goodbye, baby. Goodbye, baby. Goodbye, little girl. . Ocasio-Cortez – she She went into hiding. She couldn’t take it, “Greene said as she spoke Ocasio-Cortez’s name again.

She and her companions then rearranged the sticky notes placed on Ocasio-Cortez’s office wall and signed the guestbook outside the office by drawing a picture of a border wall before leaving to surrender at another member’s office.

Greene says repeatedly in the video that “we have security that follows us wherever we go” and seems proud of it. At the end of the day, she and her companions appear to be escorted by security. It is not known if the Capitol Police were involved.

“We’re leaving. It was fun,” she said to the camera.

Greene’s disruptive visit is not the first time she has interacted aggressively with members of Congress. As a congressional candidate in September 2020, she posted an image of herself holding a gun alongside images of Ocasio-Cortez, Omar and Tlaib and urged committing “the offense against these socialists ”.
Earlier this year, first-year Democratic Representative Cori Bush of Missouri said she would move her office from Greene following a heated exchange in which Bush confronted Greene about not wearing a mask in a hallway. from Capitol Hill.
Greene also faced backlash when she posted an anti-transgender sign outside her office, upsetting her neighbor down the hall, Democratic Representative Marie Newman from Illinois, whose daughter is transgender.
