NEW YORK – Police are looking for information about a man seen in shocking surveillance footage kicking a woman on an escalator.
The alleged assault happened Thursday night in Brooklyn as the man in the video walks past the victim on an escalator outside the Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center station, a generally busy subway station.
The man kicked the 32-year-old woman in the chest, causing her to fall down the escalator, New York police said on Monday. The video shows the man brushing past the woman as he passes her on the escalator before stopping and turning around. He is then seen grabbing the two handrails before kicking him.
The man and woman had “a verbal exchange that escalated” when he kicked her, police said.
No one in the video is seen helping the woman after she falls off the escalator. She suffered cuts and bruises to her back, arms and legs, and “left ankle trauma,” but she refused to receive medical treatment at the scene, police said.
The video also shows the man, wearing a mask due to COVID-19 rules, as he exits the subway through a turnstile.
