The Bleu-Blanc-Noir had yet to win on home soil in Major League Soccer this year. Wilfried Nancy’s men have recorded their only two road wins, against FC Cincinnati and the New York Red Bulls, in the past two weeks.
On their way to a good result, Club de Foot nearly got scammed in the final minutes, but a header from Tosaint Ricketts was eventually disallowed after the video replay, as the Canadian striker was all just in an offside position a moment earlier.
It was at the start of the half that CF Montreal was the most dangerous. Surprising the opponent each time, Djordje Mihailovic and Romell Quioto scored in the first two minutes of each engagement.
The American midfielder finished well the game started by Alistair Johnston to hit the target with a beautiful volley a few feet from the net of Thomas Hasal, from the first moments of the match.
After being a scorer, Mihailovic became a passer, finding Romell Quioto on the edge of the goal. On the verge of offside, the Honduran scored his second in as many games since his return to action.
Brian White was the lone scorer for the Whitecaps in the 65th minute. CF Montreal defenders protested after Johnston narrowly avoided the foot of Lucas Cavallini, who attempted a kick. The referee upheld his decision and the goal was awarded.
On the strength of their three consecutive victories, the Impact will return to the road next week to take on the Union in Philadelphia.
