Vice President Kamala Harris refuses to cite limits on abortion she supports

Vice President Kamala Harris declined to answer whether or not she supports gestational limits on abortion during an interview with CBS News. Face the nation on Sunday.

Interviewer Margaret Brennan asked Harris, “What do you believe?” At what week of pregnancy should access to abortion be interrupted? Harris responded by repeatedly ignoring the line of questions and instead insisted that Roe v. Wade be restored. Brennan then pushed back, stating that Roe deer was “nebulous because it was a question of viability, which could last between 20 and 24 weeks…”

“No no no no no. Let me be very clear,” Harris continued.

“Let me be very clear. From day one, the president was clear, I was clear. We must restore the protections that exist Roe v. Wade place. Since the Supreme Court passed it, Congress has the power and ability to pass legislation to restore these protections to law and Joe Biden will sign this bill. So that’s what we want,” she said.

“But does it have to be specific in terms of defining where that warranty extends and where it doesn’t extend, at what week of pregnancy?” » insisted Brennan.

“We must put back in place protections for Roe v. Wade” Harris said. “We’re not trying to do something that didn’t exist before June of last year.”

Brennan went further, asking if Harris felt the need “to be more specific” because Republicans accuse Democrats of supporting abortion up to the moment of birth. Harris once again dodged the question, instead calling the accusation “ridiculous” and a “misreading of the point.”

“I’m specific,” Harris said. “We must enshrine protections for Roe v. Wade. It’s about getting back to where we were before the Dobbs decision.”

Some Republicans and conservative commentators took note of the interview and criticized Harris for refusing to state whether she supported limits on abortion.

“This is definitely breaking news. Vice President Harris said today that the idea that Democrats support abortion on demand, up to the moment of birth, is “ridiculous,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said on x.

“Vice President Kamala Harris refuses to say at what week a baby should be legally protected. Watch this exchange. Should this be the case when a baby feels pain? When does a baby have a heartbeat? Birth? She Won’t Tell,” Former White House Press Secretary and Current Fox News Outnumbered said co-host Kayleigh McEnany.

“She aligns herself with the extremist progressive candidates in Virginia – 40 weeks,” said Rob Damschen, deputy communications director for Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R).

“Harris is asked directly when she supports abortion, up to what week of pregnancy. She’s not responding,” posted Spectator editor Stephen Miller.

“It is not surprising that Harris refuses to list a specific week or limits on abortion. NARAL and Planned Parenthood (multi-million dollar donors to Democrats) openly support no limits on abortion,” said Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, a leading pro-life organization. “Are Kamala Harris Wrong?

Democrats have waged a campaign of denial of their support for abortion on demand in response to Republicans emphasizing their extreme position, out of step with that of most Americans. However, several states – led by Democrats – have no restrictions on abortion, including Colorado, Oregon and Washington, DC. Many other Democratic-led states, such as California, New York, and Illinois, allow abortions until “viability” but allow abortions later in pregnancy, with a few exceptions, including if a woman’s “mental health” is in danger.

At the federal level, Democrats also supported a sweeping abortion bill called the “Women’s Health Protection Act.” The legislation would usurp states’ ability to pass strong pro-life laws and allow abortion during all nine months of pregnancy.
