Caracas, Nov 23 (EFE) .- The opposition party of Venezuela Primero Justicia (PJ) assured this Tuesday that the results of the regional and local elections on Sunday, in which the ruling party won, should lead the anti-Chavista bloc to a process ” urgent “to strengthen the unit and its mechanisms.
“This experience also reaffirms the urgent duty to strengthen unity and unitary mechanisms. The achievements of November 21 must be analyzed in light of the non-democratic context in which the elections were held with the aim of creating a democratic coalition. broad integrated by sectors of proven opposition quality, “said PJ in a statement.
Of 23 states in dispute in the regional elections, 21 already have final results, and 18 of them were won by Chavismo, three by the opposition, and two are not yet defined.
In addition, the ruling party also won the local elections by winning 205 mayors out of the 322 that already have confirmed results, out of a total of 335 municipalities that make up the country.
According to PJ, for next year opposition structures should be strengthened, doors open to joint work with civil society and reinvigorate those ties that are “an irreplaceable tool to advance towards democracy.”
The organization, of which the two-time presidential candidate Henrique Capriles is a member, also indicated that abstention in the elections should call for reflection from the opposition.
“Non-participation hides two realities: the pain of the diaspora and the disenchantment with politics. Venezuelans who are asphyxiated by the dictatorship and are not represented in our proposal. We tell them that we will begin a deep internal examination with righteousness and responsibility. that seeks to regenerate politics and move firmly towards democracy, “he added.
Regarding the positions obtained by the anti-Chavistas in the elections, PJ indicated that from now on they have the duty to turn those “recovered spaces” into a “trench” that serves for the “democratic struggle” and also, into a space that help alleviate the “integral crisis” that Venezuelans are suffering.
“Each governor, mayor, regional deputy and councilor of the Unitary Platform will be the voice of those who suffer the most and of those who fight for change in this country,” said the political party.
PJ denounced that during all phases of the electoral process there were irregularities that were exacerbated on voting day and reiterated that the “absence” of electoral conditions “seriously” limits the exercise of the rights of the citizens of the Caribbean country.
For his part, Capriles pointed out earlier, in a press conference, that the election results imply a “reconnection with politics” and proposed the creation of a “great federal council” of all elected opponents to “reunify the opposition. “.
“The opposition will undoubtedly have to give its discussion internally, without pettiness, without prejudice. I think it should come, it is an idea that I have, I hope that with all the elected a great federal council of all the democratic forces, “he suggested.
