Valve says DayZ and five other games are now Linux (and Steam Deck) ready anti-cheat

Valve’s Steam Deck handheld won’t have exclusive games, but it’s slowly filling some gaps in its Windows game library – says Valve Weapon 3, DayZ, Not returned, and Planet 2 Now have a working BattlEye anti-cheat when using the Proton Compatibility Layer to play Windows games on Linux. This brings the total to six games, of which Ark: survival has evolved and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. (These two already had support as of Nov. 8.)

This compatibility is important for Linux in general (and the Steam Deck handheld in particular) because they do not play Windows games out of the box. unless they work with Proton, and third-party anti-cheat software is known to interfere.

But for two of the most popular anti-cheat flavors, that shouldn’t be a hard fix! Epic Games has stated that enabling Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) in Proton should only take “a few clicks” on the game developer portal. Valve said activating BattlEye is as easy as sending an email.

And yet the developers behind many of the best anti-cheat games on Steam were unwilling or unable to confirm whether they would actually send this email or make those clicks, including Bungie, Crytek, EA. , Krafton, Microsoft and Ubisoft.

While many of the best games are running on the Steam Deck, we currently don’t know if Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Halo, Where PUBG will be among them, for example. Epic would also not commit to Fortnite, despite the activation of Easy Anti-Cheat for Proton in general. It’s not a Steam title, however, and Epic sees Valve as a competitor.
