Vaccination of 5-11 year olds: where, when and how?

The children aged 5 to 11 at risk of a serious form of Covid-19 can be vaccinated in Hauts-de-France from today in vaccination centers with a pediatric vaccination “line” (see the list here) or in hospital pediatric wards.

The list of vaccination centers offering this vaccination can also be consulted on www.sante.fr (procedures for making appointments gradually put online by the centres). In vaccination centres, only general practitioners, pediatric doctors or nurses can vaccinate children aged 5 to 11 years. The child must be accompanied and written parental authorization from at least one of the two parents is required.

Vaccination by attending physicians or city pediatricians and nurses on medical prescription will be open from December 28. The order of pediatric doses for city doctors has been open since Monday, December 12, at the rate of 1 bottle of 10 doses per doctor. The order portal will then be open at the beginning of each week.

Vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years old is carried out with the Pfizer vaccine. It is administered with an adapted dosage of 10 µg, a pediatric dose 3 times lower than that used in children aged 12 and over, and in adults (30 µg).

The vaccination schedule, apart from exceptions, is as follows: 2 doses spaced at least 3 weeks apart. To date, 5-11 year olds are not affected by the booster dose, as are 12-17 year olds.
