“We have decided, at the same time, to accelerate the protection of priority audiences. As of Monday, caregivers aged 50 and over who so wish will be able to be vaccinated in centers that already have vaccines,” he added. .

“Rest assured. The vaccination campaign will soon gain momentum,” added Olivier Véran, recalling the government’s strategy to give priority to vaccinating residents of nursing homes, which creates logistical difficulties.

“In a few weeks, vaccination will have been offered to all elderly people, and we will be at the same level as the countries which have proceeded differently,” assures the Minister of Health.

These decisions come as the government has been facing criticism from opposition parties and part of the medical profession for several days over the slowness of the vaccination campaign launched on Sunday, which at this stage has only concerned a few hundred people. people in France, against tens of thousands in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Thursday, the French National Academy of Medicine (ANM) called on the health authorities to simplify and speed up the vaccination campaign, regretting the “excessive” precautions.
