The USMNT hung with England for 94 minutes on Friday, but that’s all they could do.
The teams drew scoreless in their group stage match, putting the Americans in a must-win situation in their first-round final against Iran.
“We are proud, but our job is not done,” USA coach Gregg Berhalter told Fox Sports, adding he would like to see more goals. “We have to win on Tuesday.”
Christian Pulisic came the closest of the teams to score, sending a shot from the left side of the penalty area onto the crossbar in the 33rd minute.
It was the first scoreless tie in a World Cup game in USMNT history.
The United States will next face Iran in a must-win victory on Tuesday.
