USA Men’s Ice Hockey Team Eliminated in Quarterfinals

The United States men’s ice hockey team is absent from the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics after a stunning shootout loss to Slovakia in the quarterfinals.

The Americans led 2-1 late in the third period, before their opponents tied the score to force overtime. The Slovak team scored the only goal in the shootout, as the American team finished the set 0-for-5.

According to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski, this is the third consecutive Olympics where the United States has not won a medal. The Americans last won a medal at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, when they lost in the title game against Canada, as Sidney Crosby netted the winner in overtime.

Team USA hasn’t won gold at the Olympics since the “Miracle on Ice” in 1980. The Americans were undefeated this winter at 3-0 at the start of their game against Slovakia.
