US sues Idaho over state abortion law

Washington, Aug 2 The attorney general of the US State, Merrick Garland, announced Tuesday a lawsuit against Idaho for violating the federal Labor and Emergency Medical Treatment Act, to try to protect women who abort in that state.

Specifically, the Department of Justice sues Idaho for considering that its law prevents abortions that are necessary to perform when the health of the pregnant woman is at risk.

This is the first action by the Department of Justice against a state since the Supreme Court last June overturned the ruling “Roe v. Wade” and thus eliminated federal protection of the right to abortion. EFE
