US plans to cut off Huawei from US suppliers over security concerns

Briefly, the Journal quoting “familiar people”:

• Biden administration plans to completely cut off Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies Co. from U.S. suppliers over national security concerns
• by tightening export controls targeting the company

The background is that Huawei was placed on the U.S. Commerce Department’s “Entity List” under the previous administration. The list contains foreign companies considered national security threats. Huawei then received the technology from US companies under licenses issued by the Department of Commerce. Procurement was permitted as long as it did not endanger national security.

Says the Journal:

• The Biden administration is now considering no longer granting such licenses, although no decision has been made, sources close to the office said.
