US Marshals Service Drafts Federal Sanctuary Policy to Release Criminal Illegal Aliens

The U.S. Marshals Service is reportedly developing a federal sanctuary policy to release criminal illegal aliens into U.S. communities rather than handing them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

An exclusive report from the washington time‘s Stephen Dinan reveals that the US Marshals Service is considering creating a federal sanctuary policy to help criminal illegal aliens evade arrest by ICE and has already begun implementing such a policy in some states.

Dinan reports for the Time:

The US Marshals Service drafts sanctuary policy that would limit agency’s ability to detain illegal immigrants for pickup by ICE, The Washington Times has learned. [Emphasis added]

Under the policy, marshals would not be able to detain illegal immigrants for collection by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. upon application for an immigration warrant or a “detainee” application. Once the Marshals Service has completed processing an immigrant for custody, the person must be released even though ICE has requested a hold. [Emphasis added]

Officials said the policy was still in draft form, although The Times is aware of a jurisdiction in Florida where it has already been implemented.according to a memo sent to employees this summer. [Emphasis added]

The federal sanctuary policy would come as President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has successfully reduced the number of arrests and deportations of illegal aliens via so-called “sanctuary country” policies that prevent ICE agents arrest most illegal aliens – even those with a long criminal history.

ICE data, reported by Breitbart News, shows that prior to Biden’s sanctuary country policies, the agency was deporting an average of more than 120 illegal aliens each day. After the policies took effect last year, daily evictions fell to just 65 a day on average.

A federal sanctuary policy for the US Marshals Service would be important because nearly all foreign nationals in the agency’s custody are illegal aliens. A 2020 Department of Justice (DOJ) report found that 94% of foreign nationals detained by the Bureau of Prisons and the US Marshals Service are illegal aliens.
