In the league, Wayne Rooney’s team have won three games and drawn eight, but occupy the bottom of the league because of the deduction.

But now Kirchner, co-founder and CEO of software company Slync.io, wants to buy the club.

In a letter to Derby supporters published to the PA news agency, Kirchner said: “We don’t know each other yet, but we have two things in common: our love for football and our desire to rebuild Derby County into the proud club that everyone deserves.

“My name is Chris Kirchner and I hope to see many of you soon – as this is my official announcement of my intention to work with the trustees to remove the Derby County Football Club from administration.

“Derby County is a club with a rich history and one of the best fan groups in all of England.

“As the club is going through a very difficult time right now, it is the supporters and all those associated with the club who have remained loyal who provide the foundation for rebuilding again.

“I want to be part of this reconstruction and support this effort. As an entrepreneur, I am committed to creating businesses and I want to apply this experience to the reconstruction of this proud and historically rich club.

“This challenge is one that I don’t take lightly, but it’s something that I look forward to – and I know we can succeed – if we work together.

Ex-Man United man has a huge task to keep Derby in place

“Soccer (or football as I knew it growing up, but I’ve learned to correct that over time) has been a part of my life since I learned to walk.

“My father introduced me to the game (futbol as he called it growing up in South America) at a very young age and I have spent most of my life playing the sport.

“My love for football has not changed over the years and I have been involved as a fan throughout my adult life.

“To have the chance to buy a club as prestigious as Derby County is a childhood dream come true.

“In business, I believe in transparency, trust, humility and respect for authority. These are qualities that I grew up with.

“At this point the administration process is complex, but I have informed the administrators that I am ready to overcome these complexities.

“I understand and recognize that there are a number of interested parties in the club, but I wanted to speak officially early in the process and be frank.

“I also took it upon myself to advise my team to work simultaneously on the EFL owner and manager testing process. If I am successful in these processes, I believe it will enable us all to move forward together and leave the past behind us.

“Clearly, I am at the beginning of the steps that must take place with the administrators and the EFL. I respect these mechanisms.

“Nonetheless, my team and I have already spoken with all parties to discuss where to start. I had the privilege of attending a game last week at Pride Park and was really impressed with the facilities at the club as well as everyone I had the chance to meet.

“I was particularly impressed with the attitude of manager Wayne Rooney, his coaching staff and the players. Recent performances and results demonstrate their clear and unwavering commitment to the club.

“Life’s best stories often begin after a setback and Derby County FC’s best years are definitely ahead of us. Hopefully we have the chance to be better than ever and together write our own chapters in DCFC’s illustrious history! Raise the rams! “
