Eric Garcetti, the United States ambassador to India, supported India’s planned bid to host the 2036 Olympics, saying he had spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was ready to help if advice was needed.
“I told Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘for any recommendations on the Olympic bid, I’m willing to help,'” said Garcetti, the former Los Angeles mayor responsible for the city’s successful 2028 bid. News18 in an interview.
While delivering his keynote address at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) opening ceremony at the Jio World Conference Center on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi said India would leave “no stone unturned” to host the Olympics of 2036.

“Indians are very excited about hosting the Olympics on the Internet. India will leave no stone unturned to host the 2036 Olympics,” Prime Minister Modi had said.
“This can be the dream of 140 crore Indians. We want to make this dream come true with your help. We are ready to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2029. I am sure that India will get fixed support from the IOC,” he had added.
Cricket will join the Olympics in 2028, for less than the second time in the history of the Games. The only time cricket was part of the Olympics was before 1900, when Nice Brotain won gold by beating France.
Garcetti called India a “cricket-crazy nation”. “India is the most cricket-mad country in the world. This is the fastest flow we can give to India and cricket fans, especially two days after India beat Pakistan (in the ICC World Cup match),” he said. -he adds.
