Ursula von der Leyen or Nigel Farage? – POLICY
And could you look at this: here’s the UKIP website, with a rotating yellow book symbol on a purple background. Farage – who led UKIP until 2016 and was the leading Eurosceptic voice in Brussels for years – led a successful year-long campaign to take the UK out of the EU.
Von der Leyen, who is campaigning for a second five-year term as head of the European Commission, will debate seven other leading European election candidates for the first time on Monday evening in a debate co-hosted by POLITICO and Studio Europa Maastricht.
Contacted by POLITICO, a spokesperson for von der Leyen’s campaign did not respond whether they had taken thematic inspiration from UKIP.
“Our campaign highlights Ursula von der Leyen’s vision for a strong Europe,” he said. “It conveys a message of leadership, experience and confidence in the future, in a more personal tone. And it makes dynamic and innovative use of digital communication, with an interactive website and a strong presence on social networks.
It’s clearer then.
