MIAMI (WSVN) – College security Avantae Williams has been arrested by the Miami-Dade Police Department and the University of Miami fired from his football program.
The 20-year-old freshman was arrested Wednesday evening and faces a charge of aggravated bodily harm over a pregnant victim.
Police said Williams was involved in a fight with his ex-girlfriend, who is 31 weeks pregnant with his child.
According to the arrest report, he grabbed the victim by the hair and threw her to the ground several times. The victim was taken to hospital.
“Even if she calls you and wants to get together, you can’t get near her,” said Mindy S. Glazer, a Miami-Dade circuit court judge. “If anyone sees you with her, you would violate the order to stay away and you could be arrested again.” Very good, and you might face some additional charges. If you are arrested again, you will have to stay in jail until your trial.
Williams was being held on $ 30,000 bail, which he has since released. No trial date has been set.
Prior to his arrest, Williams was ranked as the best security in the United States
The Hurricanes released the following statement about Williams’ arrest:
“We know that student football athlete Avantae Williams has been arrested by the Miami-Dade Police Department. He was immediately suspended from all team activities.
Hours later, Williams was fired from the college football program.
