Unidentified man punches Asian woman in NYC attack caught on camera


A stranger randomly punched an Asian woman in a shocking video attack in Chelsea that is being investigated as a possible hate crime, cops said.

The 68-year-old victim was crossing the street at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and West 19th Street around 8:50 a.m. on April 24 when the attacker suddenly came up behind her, according to footage released early Monday.

The woman then runs the other way, reaching out her arm in an attempt to shoo the assailant away, before the bully chases after her and punches her in the chest – knocking her to the ground in the middle of the street, the clip shows.

Police were reported that on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 8:50 a.m., near 9th Avenue and West 19th Street, the victim, a 68-year-old Asian woman, was crossing the street when she was approached by an unidentified man who punched her in the chest and knocked her to the ground.  The unidentified man fled on foot.  The victim, who suffered from back pain and bruised ribs, was transported in stable condition to Lenox Health Greenwich Village Hospital.  The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force investigation is ongoing.
