The country celebrated on Saturday the first anniversary of the liberation of Kherson by its army, which ended eight months of Russian occupation.
But Moscow’s army remains close by. Only the Dnieper River separates them from the city, which is bombarded almost daily.
On Monday, these strikes left two dead and ten injured, said the governor of the region, Oleksandr Prokudin, on Telegram.
They also “destroyed or damaged” a hospital, an administrative building, around fifteen houses and an ambulance, he added.
This “massive attack” targeted the city center, said the head of the Kherson military administration, Roman Mrochko.
The inhabitants of this regional capital are now only 60,000 according to the authorities, compared to 300,000 before the start of the Russian invasion, launched in February 2022.
Ukrainian troops have held the right bank of the Dnieper for a year and are facing the Russian army, on the left bank, which still occupies part of the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions.
But, according to Russian and Ukrainian bloggers and experts who analyzed open source intelligence, the Kiev army has managed to anchor forces on the occupied bank of the Dnieper since the end of October, in particular in the village of Krynky.
