EU leaders are meeting for a summit with their African counterparts that risks being overshadowed by the Ukraine crisis.
Before joining African Union leaders, EU chiefs will hold a special session on Thursday focusing on the crisis triggered by the deployment of more than 100,000 Russian troops near the border with Ukraine.
Russia will also be a factor in discussions on Africa, as France is expected to withdraw its troops from Mali, where mercenaries from the Russian Wagner Group operate.
Meanwhile, also in Brussels, NATO Defense Ministers will meet their counterparts from Ukraine and Georgia.
