Ukraine applauds after Russia puts Zelensky on ‘wanted list’ – POLITICO
The addition of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the Kremlin’s “wanted list” shows “the desperation of the state apparatus and Russian propaganda”, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement on Saturday.
The list is an online database of those the Russian Interior Ministry accuses of being criminals. Russia reportedly said the Ukrainian leader was wanted “under an article of the criminal code” but did not provide further details.
Moscow has sought to assassinate Ukraine’s president since its full-scale invasion of the country began in February 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Ukraine’s military to overthrow Zelensky.
In February, Moscow added Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas to its wanted list for “desecration of historical memory and hostility toward Russia.”
In its statement, the Ukrainian ministry said that Moscow “no longer knows what to invent to attract attention.” He also stressed that “contrary to worthless Russian announcements, the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for war crimes is real and enforceable in 123 countries.”
