The Ukrainian armed forces announced a plan to mobilize reservists starting this Wednesday, due to fears of a military escalation with Russia.
The mobilization covers reservists aged 18 to 60 for a maximum period of one year, the Ukrainian army said on Facebook.
Ukraine has about 200,000 reservists and 250,000 active military personnel in the armed forces.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski on Tuesday ruled out a “general mobilization” of the armed forces.
Separately, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday urged its citizens to leave Russia quickly.
“The ministry recommends Ukrainian citizens to refrain from traveling to Russia and those already in Russia to immediately leave the territory,” an official statement said.
Some three million Ukrainians live in Russia, according to estimates by the Kiev authorities.
On Tuesday, Russia announced the evacuation of its diplomats from Ukraine and accused Kiev of not doing what was necessary to guarantee its safety.
