UK not banning arms sales to Israel, says David Cameron – POLITICO

“This is in line with the advice that I and other ministers have received, and as always we will keep the position under review,” Cameron said. Continuing to allow arms exports puts the UK on the same footing as other “like-minded countries”.

Cameron – who was in the United States as part of efforts to pressure senior Republican officials, including Donald Trump, over aid to Ukraine – made the comments amid pressure to suspend aid of British licenses for arms exports to Israel.

Calls to end arms supplies to Israel have intensified after aid workers were killed by Israeli strikes on Gaza last week. Three British nationals were among the dead.

The Foreign Secretary, former British Prime Minister, notably toughened his language on Israel’s conduct in Gaza, while the humanitarian situation there is worsening.

Speaking in the United States on Tuesday, Cameron said he remained concerned about the delivery of aid to the people of Gaza.

“Let me be clear however, we continue to have serious concerns about the issue of humanitarian access to Gaza, both for the period assessed and thereafter,” Cameron said.
