UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Vera Highlights
Alexandr Romanov was listed as a -2200 betting favorite (per DraftKings.com) ahead of UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Vera, making him the biggest betting favorite in the promotion’s history.
Romanov lived up to his bill when he completely dismantled returning Chase Sherman in the card’s final preliminary bout. Romanov easily took down Sherman before landing a rare belly-to-back suplex in the octagon.
“King Kong” took the full mount position and stalked his way to lock an Americana. Sherman had no choice but to retire at 2:11 of the first round. Romanov took his record to 16-0 with an impressive finish.
In an all-Brazilian showdown, flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo’s brother Francisco Figueiredo picked up a rebounding victory over Daniel da Silva. Impressively, Figueiredo only needed a minute and 18 seconds to do the job.
‘Sniper’ found himself on his back as soon as da Silva tried to advance to a favorable position. Figueiredo ripped his opponent’s leg off during transition, secured a knee cap and earned his first finish under the UFC banner.
Gabe Green scored a massive victory from behind against Yohan Lainesse. It looks like Lainesse was close to winning two rounds to nil against Green. However, the 28-year-old American took the scorecards out of the equation when he landed a body shot that dropped his opponent and ended the fight with ground and pound.
In the only preliminary card fight that went the distance, Natan Levy picked up a unanimous decision victory over Mike Breeden. Levy earned his first victory in the promotion by punching his opponent.
UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Vera kicked off with Shanna Young’s impressive technical knockout (TKO) against Gina Mazany. Young found herself in a back mount on a mad dash, where she landed blows to her opponent’s head. Referee Jason Herzog called a stoppage at 3:11 of the second round.
