On August 28, Jake Paul will face former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a boxing match.
Paul is 3-0 in professional boxing matches at the moment and has three knockouts to his name, most recently against Woodley’s friend Ben Askren.
However, none of Paul’s opponents had ever boxed before fighting Paul and they all came from different athletic backgrounds.
Woodley is the most dangerous opponent to date, despite his recent record. He’s lost his last three UFC games and he’s failed to win a single round in the process.
Still, he was a dominant welterweight champion in his heyday and he proved he had knockout power in his fists.
talkSPORT 2 spoke to UFC commentator Jon Anik this week and we took a deep dive into Woodley’s odds against the YouTuber turned professional boxer.
“He’s not fighting a professional boxer,” Anik told Fight Night Extra. “Woodley is not a professional boxer.
“We had Din Thomas, Tyron’s longtime corner chef, on our podcast yesterday and he said he thought it was going to be great because everything Tyron ever wanted to do in the fight camp is in putting on 10-ounce gloves.
“So if you go along with that line of thinking, I know Tyron is going to do the trick and he is going to do the right job. But he’s not a professional boxer.
“Say what you want about Jake Paul and Logan Paul, they are conditioned athletes with legitimate boxing aspirations.
“I love that Jake Paul is actually playing against someone who has legitimate boxing chops. But the reason T-Wood is the -150 favorite and not -300 as a 3/1 favorite is because Tyron Woodley is 0-0 as a professional boxer.
“I think there are a lot of layers in this fight, there are a lot of questions in terms of the respective cardiovascular systems.
“If you’re asking me for a prediction right now, and I know you’re not, I’d go for Tyron Woodley.”
“But I would say those who reject or dishonor Jake Paul’s chances, I don’t think they paid attention to what he did.”
Jake’s brother Logan just did eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather and the couple are making a lot of money hosting these crossover events.
One of the great attractions of fighting is that someone knocks out one of the Paul brothers; Will Woodley be the first?
