Tyson Fury in talks about shock summer fight against Demsey McKean in Australia

J

yson Fury is in talks to fight Demsey McKean this summer, according to the Australian heavyweight manager.

The search for an opponent for Fury continues, with a potential fight in July against Andy Ruiz Jr falling through due to financial demands and Zhilei Zhang also looking off the table after Joe Joyce activated his rematch clause to face again the Chinese fighter.

It is still hoped that Fury will fight Oleksandr Usyk in December, as part of Saudi Arabia’s huge plans which would also see Anthony Joshua fight Deontay Wilder on the same night. The winners of those two fights would then be set to face off next year.

Fury hasn’t fought since December, in the win over Derek Chisora, and since then talk of an April date for the undisputed bout with Usyk to take place at Wembley Stadium has collapsed after weeks of very public negotiations.

It remains to be seen whether this big night of heavyweight boxing will take place at the end of the year in Saudi Arabia, but for now Fury and his team are focused on finding an opponent for this summer, time is running out. .

The WBC champion is currently in Australia, supporting his friend and former world champion Joseph Parker, and said he will travel around the country looking for potential venues for his own fight.

It could well come against undefeated heavyweight McKean, who is ranked 36th by the WBC and promoted by Eddie Hearn. McKean’s manager Angelo Di Carlo has revealed negotiations are underway for his man to fight Fury Down Under in August.

“Discussions started a while ago for Demsey to fight Tyson Fury in Australia and I think Demsey is the best option for the Gypsy King,” Di Carlo told News Corp.

“We are definitely keen to make the fight. We’ve had a good association with Matchroom (McKean’s promoters) and we have great respect for Eddie Hearn (Matchroom’s boss), but I’ll have more talks with the Fury side and see where that takes us.

“If Tyson Fury wants to fight in Australia the logical option is to fight an Aussie fighter and tell the people about Fury they don’t want to fight a little heavyweight. Demsey is six foot six and being a southpaw he would present a real test for Tyson.

“We were given a possible date to fight Fury in August, so hopefully we can make it happen.”
