Two Chicago police officers shot dead in Lawndale – CBS Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS)– Two Chicago police officers were shot in the West Side neighborhood of Lawndale early Friday morning.

The incident occurred near Independence and Harrison Avenues around 3:30 a.m. A police presence is still at the scene.

Chicago police say the officers were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and their condition is unknown at this time.

Illinois State Police said the eastbound I-290 ramp to Independence Avenue was closed due to a “police-involved shootout.”

DPC Superintendent David Brown said the officers did not fire.

Brown said a weapon was recovered.
