two arrested in connection with drug charges

DECATUR, Ala (WHNT) – The Decatur Police Department (DPD) said two people were arrested Friday on drug charges following a traffic stop.
DPD said that on February 2, an officer performed a vehicle stop on a red Dodge Avenger in reference to a traffic violation in the 1200 block of 21st Avenue SW.
The department said the officer identified the driver of the car as Jeremy Orr Chatmon, 38, of Hartselle and the passenger as Cheyenne Rich, 31 of Huntsville. During the arrest, DPD said Chatmon had an active arrest warrant and suspended driver’s license and that he and Rich had marijuana and a quantity of methamphetamine.
The department said its VICE/Narcotics unit was contacted and responded to the call for narcotics found in the vehicle. DPD said Rich and Chatmon were arrested and transported to Morgan County Jail, but while Chatmon was searched inside the jail, an amount of narcotics containing fentanyl was found on his person.

DPD said Chatmon was jailed and charged with two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs, promoting smuggling while in prison, illegal possession of marijuana in the second degree, driving with a suspended license, changing lanes inappropriate and an outstanding grand jury warrant for possession of a fake instrument. He received $500,000 bond for each traffic charge and was eventually held instead on $1,028,400 bond.
The department said Rich was charged with trafficking in illegal drugs and second degree unlawful possession of marijuana. She was given $15,000 bond for the trafficking charge and was eventually held in lieu of $15,300 bond
