General Manager Troy Weaver said this when asked why Wallace was chosen to represent Detroit in the lottery:

“He embodies everything we want to represent in this organization,” Weaver said of Wallace (via the Detroit Free Press). “It is a symbol that our players must look to. It represents the city in a first class way.”

Of course, Detroit had an equal chance (14%) of getting the top pick with the Magic and Rockets as one of the bottom three teams in the league. Oddly enough, most of Twitter joked that the four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and six-time defensive player was the reason the Pistons got the No.1 pick. is quite docile and actually quite funny.
