TV provider drops Trump’s ‘favorite channel’ – RT World News

The main distributor of One America News (OAN) has refused to renew its contract with the conservative network, sparking the celebration of liberals online

One America News (OAN), a conservative television channel that has often been described as a favorite of former US President Donald Trump, is set to be dropped by its satellite operator following an internal review .

DirecTV, which carries OAN on channel 347, told the network’s parent company, Herring Networks, that it will no longer carry OAN or sister entertainment channel AWE after the current contract expires in April.

“We have advised Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not expect to enter into a new contract upon the expiration of our current agreement,” DirecTV said Friday in a statement to Bloomberg News.

While the decision will no doubt be a blow to OAN, which will no longer have a presence on one of the largest satellite television operators in the United States, it will continue to air on other national providers, including Verizon FiOS.

It’s unclear exactly why DirecTV is severing its partnership with OAN and the carrier will apparently continue to host Newsmax – another conservative channel that has also been described as a Trump favorite.

Liberal political organizations celebrated the announcement on Friday, with the controversial anti-Trump ‘Lincoln Project’ call cancellation “a major victory for democracy.”

“DirecTV’s decision will be a blow to OAN. Not only will the fringe network be removed from the millions of homes that use DirecTV as a television provider, but it will also take a severe hit to its revenue,” weighed in CNN’s senior media reporter Oliver Darcy, while others called on DirecTV to also take Newsmax and Fox News off the air.

Journalist Sameera Khan, meanwhile, criticized the “censorship,” while conservatives called for a boycott of the carrier in response.
