The shooter who opened fire on a Tulsa medical office bought an AR-style rifle “about an hour” before killing four people in the latest in a string of deadly shootings across the country in recent weeks, reports authorities announced Thursday.
Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said the shooter recently had back surgery and called the clinic multiple times complaining of pain.
The shooter aimed at the doctor who performed the operation, blaming him for the pain. That surgeon, Dr. Preston Phillips, was among those killed on Wednesday.
The other victims have been identified as Dr. Stephanie Husen, Amanda Green and William Love. Green was the office receptionist and Love was a patient.
Franklin said a letter was found on the shooter stating he intended to kill Phillps and “anyone who gets in his way.”
“We at the Tulsa Police Department mourn with these families after this senseless tragedy. We mourn with co-workers and we pray because we all need prayer,” Franklin said. “This is yet another act of violence on an American city. I will say that as a Tulsa police officer, we train and we train and we train – and we train for cases like this I am overwhelmed and proud of all the men and women who responded yesterday.”
Wednesday’s shooting at the Saint Francis Health System campus happened the same week that families in Uvalde, Texas, began burying the dead in the deadliest school shooting in nearly a year. decade.
