As dozens of GOP-led states target transgender people with proposals limiting health care and youth participation in sports, Fox News host Tucker Carlson added more transphobic talk to the conversation. Wednesday. (Watch the video below.)
Guest Wilfred Reilly, professor of political science at Kentucky State University and author of “Hate Crime Hoax: How The Left Is Selling a Fake Race War”, claimed there was an increase in the number of people identifying themselves as transgender on Fox Nation’s “Tucker Carlson Today”. Reilly said more women are now switching genders.
“These issues are very difficult to discuss, but they are serious issues,” Reilly said. “I mean, is society self-sufficient to some extent if 30% of men just don’t want or are not able to sleep with women, if an additional 2-3% of young women in particular want to change their body so they can’t in a lot or most cases have children – I mean it’s something that’s almost a structural problem. And you might ask why? Why is this happening? This is something that needs research at the very least. “
“It’s a challenge to the perpetuation of the species, that’s what you say,” replied Carlson.
“If both trends increase, yes,” Reilly replied.
“It’s true, and so it’s hard to think of anything deeper than that,” Carlson said, per Media Matters.
The Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law estimates that 1.4 million American adults identify as transgender – a far cry from what Reilly has suggested. Almost 2% of high school students identified as transgender in a 2019 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey.
Fox News, which airs the Carlson prime-time show, has filled its airwaves with shows in which hosts and guests have been fixated on LGBTQ rights since President Joe Biden took office to promote the equality, according to a report.
On Tuesday, GOP Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson rejected Carlson’s claim that his veto on a bill limiting health care for transgender people was “pro-choice on the issue of chemical castration.” The Republican-led Arkansas legislature overturned Hutchinson’s veto, making the law anti-trans.
